(11/30) Paul Vetrano's NOBLE ADVERSARY won a hard fought victory against open claimers battling head to head through the stretch prevailing by a head over Orwick. Trained by Frank Martin, the seven-year-old gelding was ridden to victory by jockey Fernando Jara. Noble Adversary was bred by Carl Lizza's Flying Zee Stables, who also owns the sire Key Contender, therefore qualifying for a combined $3,788 in breeder and stallion owner's awards. The stakes winning and stakes-placed performer Noble Adversary is out of the Noble Nashua mare, Noble Rondo.

(11/18) Inter Galactic shines in nightcap N2X surprise
Zacarias and Elizabeth Aragon's homebred INTER GALACTIC scored her first victory since winning a restricted N1X allowance at Belmont 21 starts and 24 months earlier, capturing Aqueduct's Friday N2X nightcap allowance turf mile for New York-bred fillies and mares by rallying four wide from seventh place. Ridden for the third consecutive time in competition by jockey Jose Espinoza but overlooked as the 22.50-to-1 eighth choice among 10 starters, the four-year-old filly boosted her earnings by $27,600 into six figures at $120,306 and improved her record to 3 - 1 - 3 in 27 starts. She also qualified her breeder and co-owner, Dr. Aragon of West Hempstead, for a $5,520 breeder award. The sire of Inter Galactic, New York-bred graded winner Incurable Optimist, raced for John and Theresa Behrendt of New York City and stood at Carl Lizza Jr.'s and Joseph Bartone's Highcliff Farm in Delanson before going to Argentina, and the filly's victory qualified the Behrendts for a $1,932 stallion award. Inter Galactic is the third named offspring and third New York-bred winner produced from Princess Nova, by Morning Bob, being a half-sister to stakes-placed four-time winning router Galactic ($233,473) and to multiple winning router My Girl Natalie ($200,972 through 2004), but she is Princess Nova's first turf-winning offspring. Princess Nova is a half-sister to multiple graded turf winner Cuzzin Jeb ($259,470).

When Timothy Clatterbuck's New York-bred GLORYTOTHEHIGHEST teamed up with jockey Sylvester Carmouche III on October 21, the three-year-old registered his best-ever speed ratings, so when the two reunited at Charles Town 27 days later on Thursday evening, November 17, the outcome should not have been surprising -- but it was. Overlooked as the 13.40-to-1 sixth choice among 10 starters in a 4-1/2-furlong maiden special for three-four-and-five-year-olds, Glorytothehighest broke on top and held a short lead over 25.70-to-1 eighth choice General Diamond through the opening quarter-mile before drawing clear and pulling away to a 3-1/2-length victory. The effort improved the bay gelding's record to 1 - 1 - 3 in 10 starts, in the last eight of which he has never finished worse than fourth. Trained by Larry Campbell, Glorytothehighest had been claimed from his breeder, High Value Resources LLC, for $5,000 at Charles Town on August 20 and had shown significant improvement when placing third three starts later at Charles Town in his first effort under Carmouche. The New York-bred is by the late New York-based stallion Prosper Fager and was conceived at Carl Lizza Jr.'s and Joseph Bartone's Highcliff Farm in Delanson. He is the first offspring produced from Frost Bite, by Miner's Mark, and is inbred 2 x 3 to Mr. Prospector and 3 x 4 to Dr. Fager -- the sire-broodmare sire cross responsible for producing outstanding miler and foundation sire Fappiano.
